Learning Providers

The key to this project are the work-based learning Providers (WBLPs): those 600 organisations which have been successful in achieving government supported programmes to deliver training, qualifications and, above all, jobs to large numbers of people of all ages.

Work Based Learning and Welfare to Work Providers

The key to the work of the Business Education Trust (BET) is the Group of 600 United Kingdom work-based learning and welfare to work Providers.

Some are public sector colleges; some charities; but most are commercial businesses – varying greatly in size. They are granted contracts by Government agencies to deliver a certain amount of training, leading to vocational qualifications, which is provided entirely in the workplace.

It is up to the WBLP to identify and recruit the people to go on their Apprenticeship or Work Choice programmes and to provide professional support for the programme’s duration. Many businesses use this system as their normal method of recruiting staff. Where the Provider is successful in terms of recruiting and ideally exceeding the numbers allocated to the required standards of achievement, the contract may be increased in the following year. The reverse also applies.

The current Providers have been inspected, monitored and guided by the relevant government agencies over the years; and are of a very high standard.

Providers have already been extremely generous in making places on their Apprenticeship and Work Choice programmes available to those leaving the Armed Forces and, as this initiative develops, further offers will undoubtedly become available. Over 40 Providers have already undertaken to contribute to the BET initiative; making available more than 250 job opportunities on their programmes.
